Amphetamine

Directed by: Scud
Interpreted by: Byron Pang, Thomas Price, Linda So
Feature Film, China, 2010
97´

Première in Spain

Kafka, a sports teacher, meets Daniel, a passionate executive and homosexual and they start a strange but unconditional relationship, a love that seems to transcend everything, but nevertheless it would not be able to break barriers in their sexual differences or his addiction to drugs; Kafka can not fell love the same way as Daniel; his nature, memories of a devious past and his addictions will lead him on the brink of ruin.

Amphetamine is the second movie in a trilogy of the Chinese director Scud, a director that breaks with formalisms of audiovisual language, reconstructing images, playing with flash backs and always using a very contemporary visual language. His first, “Permanent Residence”, explored the limits of life, whereas his third, in postproduction process, “Life of an artist”, examines the limits of art. His second movie has been projected this year in the Berlin Film Festival and the Hong Kong Film Festival.

Blind Company

Directed by: Alkinos Tsilimidos
Interpreted by: Colin Friels, Nick Barkla, Gloria Ajenstat
Feature Film, Australia, 2009
97´

Première in Spain

Blind Company tells the story of Geoff Brewster, a middle age man retired in a beach cabin to die peacefully; his illness is turning him blind and he decides to spend his last days in peace, away from his wife Sally for whom he leaves confessions recorded in tapes bit by bit. But Geoff loneliness is interrupted when his nephew Josh arrives unexpectedly and decides to stay with him. Tension fills the cabin because of Josh’s strange behaviour, a mortal game that could destroy both men.

The famous Australian director Alkinos Tsilimidos does not pretend with this movie an effect punch or focusing on social prejudices but just telling a story with a very beautiful narrative and plastic form. Landscape has an important role in this story as in the Adam Arkapaw movies, who has contributed enormously to increase reputation of the new Australian cinema in a stunning manner by making movies concerned brilliantly with environment.

The Blind Company is in reality an emotional and physical trip by the shores of life and death.

Ghosted (Ai Mei)

Directed by: Monika Treut
Interpreted by: Inga Busch, Huan-Ru Ke, Ting Ting Hu
Feature Film, Germany/Taiwan, 2009
89´

Combining Taiwanese ghost traditional tales with the European perspective of contemporary cinema, “Ai-Mei” describes an unforgettable love story between a German artist, Sophie, and a Taiwanese woman, Ai-Ling. When Ai-Ling dies in mysterious circumstances, Sophie is devastated. While her memories are opened out by flash-backs and her own video shots, this movie reveals the cultural differences that enforced their relationship as much as made it difficult. In a trip to Taipei to show her work, Sophie meets Mei-Li, a journalist whose mysterious appearance in the life of Sophie seems stranger every time. As a ghost apparition, the seductive presence of Mei-Li makes Sophie face the truth about her lost love.
With incomparable aesthetics, subtle and moving, “Ai-Mei” explores limits between life and death, fantasy and reality, as well as memory and image.
