For them. For us.
To put yourself in the place of another. To know that the heart closes in the face of rejection and incomprehension. To be aware that human beings need to feel included in the plans of the person with whom they share their life. To feel that judging others is the barrier to whoever purports to grow and develop. To accept differences. To measure the consequences that our jokes could cause in the recipient. To live together in peace. Because these things we all share, whatever we are like. And those of us who have been around for longer can help those who need it. There are no answers, but there are attitudes. There are ways of living and giving. And if what you receive fills you with pain and rage, impotence and an urge to run away, you will not have the capacity to give anything better than what you have. And that's how we go, giving and receiving. Parents, teachers, students, colleagues, remember an embrace, a kiss. Listen, shelter, agree. Silence. Everything has its moment. Strengthen the self-esteem of whoever is crying out for a little attention, with warmth and without judgement. With love and without shouting. With patience. With desire.
Because it's worth at least trying. Because the other person, so alien, also forms part of your life. Because we will feel much better if we define ourselves with a smile. Because affection is the basis of nearly everything. Because we need each other. And as we have to leave our mark, it's better to be remembered for building something. For how we love. For them. For us. For everyone.

The suicide of young homosexuals and bisexuals is a public health concern in France. Various studies which have been undertaken over the last 15 years, first abroad and later in the country itself, have shown that the suicide rates among the gay and lesbian communities are much higher than heterosexuals, such that identifying discrimination as a factor associated with significant psychological suffering, could become a temptation to suicide.
FIRE!! presents "Young and homosexual under the watchful eye of others", 5 short films against homophobia, organised by IMPES (Institut national de prévention et d'éducation pour la santé) with the support of the French Health and Sports Ministry and Canal+. This is a production of AMDA, Guillaume Nail and Daphné Charbonneau.
